How long has it been since we've seen these two? Five months or so? Wow.
The fighting at Ryuko's apartment building has been interesting but I'm looking forward to more Kumogakure shenanigans.

The chapter starts off with Old Man Negoro leading the two through the tunnel to the best of his ability. Noguchi decides to ask him about Chiyome, much to the dismay of Juniro. After being asked and declining to know anything about Chiyome's death, Juniro uses the trademark Kumogakure Topic-shifting Jutsu to bring up Negoro's heroic tales.

Juniro brings up General MacArthur, and Negoro tells the story behind the event first featured in Under Ninja Chapter 1 of MacArthur's corn cob pipe being struck by a shuriken. Old Man Negoro reveals that he was the one who threw the shuriken at him in an assassination attempt.

Juniro comments that he thought the Seven would have been on the side protecting MacArthur, but Negoro reveals that was the generation of Seven before him, and that he wanted to continue fighting against the Allied Powers. He reveals as well that his great-grandfather attempted to assassinate Matthew Perry twice and failed. "Behind every major historical change, there's always a ninja conflict", Old Man Negoro states.

He asks Juniro how many years there had been between the Meiji Restoration and the end of World War II, and Juniro says there were 77 years between the two. He then asks how many there had been between the end of the war until the present. Juniro says there had been 75 years. What a pattern.

Old Man Negoro turns away and mentions "that person", the same one which Ranran had mentioned a few chapters ago. Noguchi asks who the person is, but the old man changes the topic. With Chiyome now dead and the remaining Seven seeking to restore their youth... The days of their youth will never truly return.

We're shown a flashback at the same apartment where the Kumogakure now live. We see a group of five young people sitting in a circle, drinking. Both Negoro and Chiyome are present, along with an unknown woman tied to the Shinobi Research Center, a chubby man who I presume to be Tara, and an unknown man laying on the floor who appears to have the Kumogakure eyes.

They chat about the satellite technology that would eventually become "Escape" and an invisiblity material that would eventually become Marishiten. The young Chiyome states that "Kenken tends to focus on one thing at a time", which appears to be a nickname for Kenkengakugaku Hibi of the Shinobi Research Center.

Chiyome asks the woman about what happens to your shadow if you're invisible, and the woman believes you wouldn't cast a shadow. Chiyome asks if you'd be able to see yourself if you were invisible, which amuses the chubby man. The man's laughing seems to annoy the person living in the connected room, who hits against the door. The man laying on the floor shushes the group.

Before the flashback ends, we're shown an invisible figure standing in the connecting room. Against the woman's assumption, the figure does cast a shadow.

In the present, our group reaches a ladder that leads out of the tunnels. Old Man Negoro forgets about questioning Juniro and he walks off without another look. Juniro and Noguchi climb up the ladder and find themselves exiting a sewer grate outside Noguchi's house. Toichi is sitting there, and she doesn't look happy.

This chapter was another short one along with the spread at the end, but there was a lot of dialogue so it didn't feel that short. At least to me. See you next chapter!
